Coffee Roasting Ain't as Easy as It Sounds

Roasting coffee is truly a creative and very scientific process. I started out thinking, really, how hard could it be - you press a few buttons, watch the timer, and a few minutes later, you have freshly roasted coffee beans.
No. A coffee roaster is NOT an "EZ Bake Oven". Not even the most basic coffee roasting method (popcorn popper) is that simple. Roasting requires an understanding of the beans before you even plug the thing in. Then there's the science (which does involve math - not a fan) and the tech.

I started this post planning to share my journey from coffee lover to aficionado to barista to roaster. But right now I'm exhausted and it's 4am and we've been roasting coffee for days to stock up and I really need a shower and a cup of coffee!!
What I will say is that depending on what kind of equipment you're using, roasting can be a smokey, messy, noisy, and even dangerous event. But in the end, with a little dedication, trial and error, and lots of practice, the coffee is definitely worth the effort!
I'll get back around to writing about my experiences roasting soon...
